8th Suzuki Teachers’ Exchange Weekend
in Germany

(Violin / Viola)

Suzuki teachers from all over the world will gather together at the Conference in Remscheid to share their experience in an open, interactive, and inclusive learning environment where all are welcome!

Our presenters are preparing wonderful lectures, discussions, and instrumental sessions FOR YOU.

One of the Conference highlights will be the world-renowned American violinist and pedagogue BRIAN LEWIS, returning to the Conference (back by popular demand) as a featured guest in 2016.

During the conference, Brian Lewis will lecture, perform a recital, and teach masterclasses for students. He is the son of Alice Joy Lewis, a well-known pioneer of the Suzuki method in the United States.

As a child, he studied with and performed for Dr. Suzuki on many occasions.  As a dynamic and engaging teacher, Brian Lewis is committed to growing the legacies of the great pedagogues Dorothy DeLay and Dr. Shinichi Suzuki for future generations.

Intermediate Violin Literature and Technique (Suzuki Books 5 – 8) with Brian Lewis

These courses will focus on some of the literature and techniques that appear at the intermediate level (Suzuki Books 5 – 8).

Participants will study and perform various literature from the Suzuki repertoire and examine fundamental techniques such as:

  • up-bow staccato
  • gigue bowing
  • ricochet
  • sautillé
  • detaché
  • quick string crossings
  • playing slow movements
  • intonation
  • trills
  • velocity

Some Kreutzer etudes will be used to further illustrate and deepen the understanding of these essential skills.  Many of the course offerings will be led and coached by our distinguished guest lecturer, Brian Lewis.

New Teaching Ideas and Materials for Pre-Twinkle and Book 1 Students, Teachers, and Parents

Course C: Intensive Course for Suzuki Violin Teachers
Start:
Sunday, 30 October 2016, 4:00 p.m.
End: Monday, 31 October 2016, 1:30 p.m.

The future success of a student depends greatly upon the teacher’s ability to effectively teach the content of Book 1.  Experienced Suzuki teachers from various European countries and the USA will share details about their strategies for establishing an excellent foundation for beginning students.

In particular, the course will address the most important teaching points at the Pre-Twinkle level, as participants learn new and creative ways to teach technique, musicianship, and sound quality to young children.

An interesting feature of the course will include the debut of new teaching materials for the Pre-Twinkle violinist developed by Kerstin Wartberg and Charles Krigbaum.  These materials include new films, mp3 files, new Pre-Twinkle Songs, sheet music, and games for lessons and home practice.  These materials will be made available as gifts to all course C participants. Here you find one of the new videos of new teaching materials.

Hi I’m a level 1 Suzuki teacher and I was wondering what course B includes? It’s a bit unclear! If I could come I could only come from the Sat-Sun as I work full time during the week. Thank you.
