Assistant teachers are available to help students with practicing.Features of the program:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Master classes: String Academy faculty give a weekly two-hour master class. Both guest artists and String Academy faculty give additional evening master classes. Each student will attend the weekly master class and will be asked by their private teacher to perform when prepared. Pianists are available for rehearsals, lessons, classes and concerts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chamber music: Chamber music assignments will be made based on the audition recording. Students may also choose to audition in person on the first Sunday of the Academy. Groups will be arranged according to individual playing level; every effort is made to arrange compatible groups. Chamber music groups rehearse from 11 &#8211; 1 four days a week. Younger students will participate in the chamber orchestra on Tuesday and Thursday. Many groups will perform during the final week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Recitals: Students have the opportunity to perform in scheduled recitals with their teacher&#8217;s approval. Recitals take place each Friday and\/or Saturday, and more often during the final week. The workshop consists of pedagogy sessions and individual instruction. It includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Initial setup: Understanding the Body: the most important link in the development of a young student is the early lessons, as they set the stage for a strong foundation and all future learning. Important fundamental steps include discussion and observation of a child\u2019s first lessons as well as a beginner group lesson, and hands-on experiments with ease of physical motion principles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Establishing a Beautiful Tone: how to teach bow stroke technique for beautiful tone will be addressed in a systematic way using scales, etudes and repertoire from the first lessons through to advanced levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pathways to Accurate Intonation: the physical and aural skills (theory\/ear training) needed to build a strong foundation for accurate intonation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Understanding Shifting: preparatory exercises for introducing shifting, different types of shifts, and developing shifting with sequential repertoire and etudes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Developing the Vibrato: principles of vibrato and finding the best way to help individual students create and develop a beautiful vibrato.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Correcting of Bad Habits: these popular sessions cover an in-depth study of a systematic way to correct incorrect beginnings in a student\u2019s playing. Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate and study various Kreutzer etudes in hands-on instruction with workshop faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Interesting repertoire for each developmental level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cTriangular energy\u201d arising from the roles of students, parents, and teachers. Small steps which result in huge strides: sessions on the role of the parent, on motivation; ideas and structure through repertoire and performance and practicing activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hands-on Instruction in mini-master class settings will focus on the pedagogical aspects covered in discussions and individual participant needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Workshop activities will also include observations of faculty working with students at all levels of proficiency, an internet session for string pedagogy resources, and a session on setting up a studio.
