The ESA has informed the German Suzuki teachers by e-mail circular that for trademark reasons they may not use the professional designation of \u201cSuzuki Teacher\u201d unless they were SMD members.<\/p>\n

The DSG Teacher Trainer Mike Hoover has prepared a short written reply which we would like to bring to your attention.<\/p>\n

By the way, the ESA action to compel teachers to become SMD members contravenes German law, because the American Suzuki<\/i> name label is not<\/b> valid in Germany.
\nThis was declared by the German Federal Patents Court on 2nd<\/sup> July 2013.<\/p>\n

Dear Sue Wimpeney, Dear ESA Board members,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I wish I could thank you for an informative letter, but your letter shows once again that the ESA\u00a0 leadership fails to recognise the gravity of its actions in its “German campaign.” I have read this material several times since December 2011. Obviously, the ESA leadership thinks that if it repeats nonsense often enough it will become truth!<\/p>\n

The way the SMD and its leadership took power demonstrates to me that I absolutely cannot trust them. The fact that the ESA leadership supported them and handled in such a devious manner means that I absolutely cannot trust them. Both organizations have acted in ways that cannot be reconciled with Suzuki’s philosophy, so I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT TRUST THEM. It is as simple as that.<\/p>\n

Your statement, “The name \u2018Suzuki\u2019 is trademarked and only membership of the ESA gives Suzuki Teachers a licence to use the \u2018Suzuki\u2019 name,” doesn’t hold up here in Germany. I have no need and no intention of using the Suzuki Logos. But my students will continue to be taught using Suzuki’s method and philosophy and this will be clear to the public in this region.<\/p>\n

William Starr sums it up very well: “…teachers, Suzuki or not, need to stay faithful to what they are teaching and the children they are teaching it to.
\nWE AREN’T TEACHING A METHOD, we’re teaching children, and we’re teaching music. Suzuki just gave us a little more faith in the process.”
\n(The capitalization is from me for emphasis.)<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I have no faith in the current European Suzuki Association!<\/strong><\/p>\n
